Giving Care in the Right Places

Please don't be offended if you are asked what the problem is when you ring for an appointment. This is called Care Navigation and it's about helping you get the service you need.

Find out more about Care Navigation in this information leaflet.

Urgent (Same Day) Appointments

To be seen urgently you will need to contact the surgery and the receptionists will ask you a couple of questions, then you will be given a time to come down and see a GP.

For urgent / emergency appointments and home visits you may not be able to see the doctor of your choice.

Please also refer to our 'Urgent Problems and Out of Hours' page for information.

Appointment Types

We offer 3 types of appointment:

  • Routine appointments: there are eight 10 minute appointments for each doctor
on duty each day and they can be booked up to six weeks in advance.
  • Urgent 'on the day' appointments: the remaining five 10 minute appointments
each day are kept for more urgent problems and can be booked on the day.
  • Emergency appointments: there are four short 5 minute appointments available for each doctor at the end of every surgery.

General Information

Although you are registered with a specific doctor, you are free to consult any doctor. Please try however, to see the same doctor for any one condition as it helps the doctor get to know you and your condition.

We aim to see you for problems that aren't emergencies within two working days. If you request a named doctor, we aim to offer you an appointment within one week, although please be aware that if a doctor is absent due to, for example, annual leave, then the wait may be longer.

The practice nurses also have an appointment system. You can arrange an appointment with a nurse up to six weeks in advance.

We aim to treat you promptly. Please help us to do this by telling us in good time if you cannot keep your appointment and by arriving on time for appointments. If you are more than 10 minutes late for an appointment you may be asked to re-book your appointment.

If you need an interpreter, please tell the receptionist when you book your appointment.

Telephone Advice & Consultations

Telephone Advice may include queries about a prescription, a test result, a hospital appointment, a referral, a form that needs to be completed or advice about a minor ailment.

If you only need advice from the doctor or nurse you can book a telephone consultation by calling the Surgery. The doctor will call you back and discuss your problem at an allotted time. Please make sure you give the correct phone number to the receptionist.

General health advice is also available from the NHS 111 service by calling 111 from your landline or mobile phone.

If you are aware you need an intimate examination, and would like a chaperone, please let reception know when you book your appointment, so we can make sure a nurse is available. Alternatively, please tell reception when you book in.

Our Chaperone Policy is available in our policies section.
